1702 battle map of Germany around Rhine and Moselle region
1762, by J. B. Homann & Homann Heirs, from “Atlas Homannianus Mathematico-Historice Delineatus”,
copperplate engraved, original hand color. Nuremberg, Germany. 24 x 20 1/2″. Authenticity Guaranteed.
This highly decorative map has two cartouche’s, one of them shows a battle that took place around Landau, a nice example of early thematic theater of war map. The lower cartouche has the Roman god Bacchus offering a toast. The region where the hinter Rhine and Vordor Rhine merge in Switzerland is shown, along with a large area of the Rhineland region. An small tear on upper margin is negligible and does not effect the map.
Overall in fine condition.
