Coat of Arms of the towns in the County of Hainaut (BELGIUM) 1572-1622. By Braun & Hogenberg
One of the most unusual addition to the Civitates Orbis Terrarum, the worlds first true city atlas, as this type of representation is very rare. Each city is shown as a tower, with shields. Smaller locations are within a oval. The imperial double headed eagle is of the Holy Roman Empire is on top. Mons, the capital of Hainaut on the bottom. Some of the locations were lost to France. Others are a part of Flanders.
